Hello!
I’m Marta Taylor, I illustrate and tell stories — mostly for happy and funny picture books. You’ll find my bold and quirky personality reflected in my artwork and my writing.
It all started at the end of the world in a tiny rural New Zealand town. I grew up befriending farm animals, climbing trees and running bare feet in cow patty mine fields. Still practicing how to write, we moved to Barcelona (I’m half Spanish) where I was bombarded with a whole new culture. Not only did I have to learn a new language, but I had to become civilised, too. I had to remember to wear shoes and roads are actually used by cars!
When I read my first comic, everything changed. I started drawing any chance I got! I learnt how to draw anatomy and prespective when I should’ve been paying attention in class. With colour pallets, even these days, I just go with my gut feeling since I’m colour blind…
Then, like most people, I found a job, started working and didn’t have time to do any of my hobbies. Several years went by until I had a knee injury and spent a year at home not being able to walk. I can’t believe that from such a difficult time I actually started drawing again, which has led me to becoming a storyteller!
I want to bring happiness and warmth into people’s lives, which you can notice with the vibrant colours and a playful touch of imperfection in my art. I feel really proud to know that others describe my work as cosy and inviting (and a bit quirky).
These days you can find me happily living in a small town on the Mediterranean coast near Barcelona with my husband and dog Kiwi. I still forget to put my shoes on sometimes when I leave home.
